Oregon Waterfall Elopement

Oregon Waterfall Elopement

This magical waterfall elopement in the Columbia River Gorge was one of my favorite days ever!!! Carly and Zach have a special bond with the Portland area, and I was so stoked to get out there and explore not one, but two stunning waterfalls with them! We ended the day with a sunset toast high on the cliffs above the river, then drove down to a secluded beach for their first dance. An absolutely incredible and emotional elopement day from start to finish.

AN INTIMATE ELOPEMENT IN THE COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE

To kick off Carly and Zach’s elopement day, I met up with them at their Airbnb just outside of Portland, OR. They’re both huge music junkies, so their cabin was perfect for them – I loved the vintage records lining the walls and the eclectic furniture! After snapping a couple of detail photos, we packed up our gear and headed to the first waterfall.

The drive through the Columbia River Gorge is one of the best parts about eloping in Oregon. The narrow highway winds through the river canyon, with waterfall viewpoints and hikes all along the way! Definitely a hiker’s paradise, and the perfect place to explore for a mini honeymoon trip. Although the Gorge is known for being pretty rainy and moody (welcome to the PNW, hahaha), this particular fall day was perfectly sunny! We didn’t get a drop of rain all day, unless you count the mist from the waterfalls 😉 Rain or shine though, this area is absolutely incredible – especially in the fall, winter or spring when the waterfalls are raging.

After parking at the first location, it was time for the first look. Zach headed out to the waterfall to wait for his bride, and I helped Carly button up her bohemian-style dress. Then we headed down to the waterfall to show off the finished look! After she tapped him on the shoulder, they shared a huge hug and wiped away a few tears. We shot a few more portraits near the waterfall before heading to the next location to meet up with their officiant, Jimmie Berguin, for the ceremony.

A DREAMY ELOPEMENT CEREMONY BENEATH A TOWERING WATERFALL

Officiant Jimmie is famous in the elopement biz, and for good reason!!! We were all cracking up during Carly and Zach’s ceremony, packed with dirty jokes and music references. Partway through the ceremony, the bride and groom shared personal letters with one another and even MORE tears were shed. I’m pretty sure we all cried like 5 times throughout the day, lol.
I could feel Carly and Zach’s excitement in the air – today was finally the day that they got to make it official after 12 years together!!! My heart could barely handle it. We celebrated with a shot (Jimmie’s tradition), C & Z sealed their vows with a kiss, and the rest is history!! The sun was starting to get lower in the sky, so it was time for yet another location change to wrap up the day.

SUNSET IN THE COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE

As the light started to turn gold, we ventured up the cliffs of the Gorge to pop some bubbly and beers. I also grabbed a few shots of Carly’s jacket, which had patches sewn on to represent each of her family members. Since C & Z eloped without any guests, this was such a sweet way to incorporate them and have them be a part of the day!!
While this location was insanely gorgeous, it was starting to get pretty crowded, so we decided to check out a fourth location so Carly and Zach could have a more private first dance as husband and wife. We ventured down to the shores of the Columbia River and they swayed to Rayland Baxer’s “Mountain Song”. The water was like glass, reflecting the last few rays of sun before night began to fall. I didn’t want this day to end – we all got a little emotional saying goodbye!! Definitely an elopement I will never forget with two of my favorite humans on the planet 🙂
