We met Johnny and Hannah climbing in the Red River Gorge, and shot this fun session overlooking Chimney Top at the peak of Fall. It doesn’t get much better than fall in the Red River Gorge, Kentucky. Keep reading to see some climbing and a little taste of the Gorge.
Adventure in the Red River Gorge at Chimney Top
We recently had one of the most fun shoots we’ve ever done with these two, Hannah and Johnny. Part of the fun is owed to the fact that they’re a couple of goofs who we just had a great time running around with. It’s clear they have a ton of love for each other and share many of the same passions, one of which is rock climbing. If you know anything about Gabi and I, you’ll know that we share a love (or obsession) for climbing too.
And that leads me to the other reason this shoot was so fun – it was in The Red River Gorge of southeastern Kentucky, home to some of the best climbing in the world. The gorge is packed with miles and miles of towering sandstone cliffs, and every fall, thousands of climbers flock here from around the world to sample these stunning geological features. Johnny and Hannah have been climbing here all season for the past four years, so this area has a very special place in their hearts.

This winter, they’re taking off from the Red to hit the road indefinitely, unsure of when they’ll be back. They bought a 13-foot Scamp travel trailer, which they’ll tour around in to sample some of the other incredible climbing destinations throughout the country. No doubt they’ll miss it here, but something tells me they’ll find many new areas to fall in love with all over again.
Needless to say, we were psyched to go around to some of Johnny and Hannah’s favorite spots in the gorge and capture some memories before they hit the road. The day started off with a little rock climbing (obviously), and then we followed them up to their favorite lookout, which overlooks Chimney Top Rock. These two hardly needed any direction on how to be cute for the camera. I think it’s safe to say they were meant for each other. Hannah and Johnny – may the road treat you well and lead you on to many new adventures! Hopefully our paths will cross again sometime soon.
