Our Kauai Elopement Guide is up on the blog! Check the link in our bio. Last year we had an epic trip to Kauai and decided to go back there every year because it’s that incredible. We kicked the trip off photographing a beautiful elopement on the beach and then romped around Kauai’s version of the grand canyon for sunset with them. What a way to start the trip! We spent the rest of the week adventuring all over the island, swimming with sea turtles, hiking ridge lines on the Na Pali coast, climbing through crazy bamboo forests, jumping into waterfalls, eating the local food, and even finding time to read a book on the beach while sipping on a cold beer. We’d end each day either covered in mud or covered in sand and it was perfect. It was like we had our own honeymoon after photographing someone else’s wedding 🤣 But even with all the exploring we did, we barely scratched the surface of this island. We’re going back in February and this time we’re taking a boat tour because it’s whale watching season in February, we’re definitely renting surf boards and trying our hand at a new sport 🏄🏻‍♀️ we’ll be exploring more of the ridge hikes because DAMN that was one of the coolest hikes we’d ever done, and we are 💯 doing that doors off helicopter ride to get those bird eye views of the island 🚁 Counting down the days till we’re back here! We have another spot for an elopement or crazy fun adventure sesh on the island, so check out that blog post to see if this it’s how you want to spend your wedding week (spoiler alert: it is). And even if you aren’t going to Kauai to get married, the blog is mainly focused on all the fun things to do on the island so it’s great for those that just want a bad ass jungle paradise vacation 👍🏼🥽🐳🐢🌞🍣🍹🏄‍♂️🚁🛥🏝

Dreaming of these beautiful blue sky days and can’t wait to be back up here. Won’t be for a while though, right now this spot is covered in 6+ feet of snow 😝❤

We don’t normally post behind the scenes pics, but this one might be the best bts shot we’ve ever taken so I had to share. Yes, that’s a dog in Brandon’s backpack 😂🥰 And also a camera at his hip, whiskey and hot toddy fixings in the left water bottle holder, extra trekking poles in the right water bottle holder, and a happy newlywed smooching I the distance 🙌🏼 This is a typical scene for us on elopements, well maybe the pup in the pack was a first lol. But yeah, we’re not just carrying up our cameras and lenses to the summit, we’re bringing spare gloves, extra puffy jackets, celebratory drinks, umbrellas, our emergency kit, bear mace, snacks, string lights, the couples’ nicer pair of shoes... the list goes on. If you’re one of our couples reading this, I’m sure you can think of a few things we pulled out of our packs that came in handy 😆 We’re like the Mary Poppins of elopements, ready to grab anything you could possibly need right out of our packs. And sometimes that might even mean the cutest little adventure pup 🐾🖤

I love the contrast of a wedding dress out in the wild. There’s something so striking about an elegant piece of fashion intended for ballrooms and red carpets, out there collecting dirt and snagging on route systems out on the trail. But what I love even more is how perfectly these dresses actually compliment the landscapes we photograph them in. Like Sarah’s dress flowing behind her, mimicking the swooping glaciers on the mountains surrounding them 🏔 .

Oh ya know, just hopping around from cliff to cliff on yr wedding day. Pro tip for all you elopers out there - definitely wear an outfit and a pair of shoes you can hop around in because stoke levels are going to be off the charts! Excitement, adrenaline, love for your partner, love for the scenery, that I-can’t-believe-it’s-finally-hear feeling, and all kinds of emotions are running through you, and its electrifying. Often times you’ll find yourself running around wherever it is you are just laughing and giggling with your person, soaking in all the views, and holding onto each special moment from your day. And duh, we’ll be there to capture your giddy selves jumping around the mountain, so maybe pick a cute pair of hiking shoes 😉

This elopement ceremony location is 100% Tolkien-approved 🧙‍♂️ This forest is straight out of middle earth. Note the umbrellas - we actually prefer shooting in here when it’s misty and moody! The light is perfect and all the trees and ferns and moss seem to glisten under the fresh dew drops. If you want to elope in a forest like this, we recommend picking a date in the fall, winter, or spring when it’s more likely to be overcast. And as a bonus, you’ll encounter far less crowds than during the summer months. There’s nothing more enchanting than wandering through a temperate rainforest while a soft rain falls on the canopy far above 😌
