SEATTLE SODO WEDDING | KELSI & ELY | RUSTIC INDUSTRIAL DIY | SEATTLE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS
The Seattle Sodo Wedding We’ll Never Forget
This Seattle Sodo wedding was really something special. So much hard work went into transforming the venue, WithinSodo, into Kelsi and Ely’s DIY wedding vision. Kelsi herself, with some help from friends and family of course, DIY’d all the floral decorations. She also crafted their ceremony backdrop by dip-dying a large cloth in a turmeric solution she made. So creative! And Ely booked the best band we’ve ever heard at a wedding, Industrial Revelation. Amazing, amazing jazz band. As we looked around the space, we kept noticing little handcrafted details and decorations. Having thrown our own DIY wedding, we could really appreciate how much time and effort must have gone into everything.
All this was even more remarkable knowing what had transpired leading up to this day. Just two months before the wedding, Kelsi was diagnosed with stage 2 Hodgkins Lymphoma. She immediately began undergoing treatment. I don’t think anyone would have blamed them if they had postponed the wedding and all the time and effort that it would require. But when we reached out to check in with them, Kelsi and Ely let us know it was very much still on.
The Wedding Day: So. Much. Love.
At the wedding, you would have had a hard time knowing anything was amiss. Kelsi and Ely were all smiles, catching up with family and goofing off with their equally goofy friends. We can’t imagine a better support group for these two than their amazing network of friends and family. Seriously, what an awesome and fun group of people to hang out with and photograph for the day.
Everyone in the family had a job to do, and knocked it out of the park. The Moms were on flower duty, getting ready duty, and pretty much whatever-needs-to-get-done duty. Kelsi’s dad acted as Coordinator-in-Chief. And Ely’s dad officiated an emotional, heartfelt ceremony. You could literally feel the love for Kelsi and Ely swelling in the room. I’m also pretty sure no eye was dry by the end of it.
After the wedding, Gabi and I had planned to meet them during their “mini-moon” in Oregon for an adventure shoot. However, they had to cancel last minute when Kelsi had some unexpected complications pop up. After all the fun at the wedding, it was a tough reminder of the battle they’re fighting, and what it must have taken to throw such an amazing wedding right in the middle of it. The love these two have for each other is clearly tremendous. And their ability to throw such an awesome DIY wedding, despite everything going against them, shows a strength and positivity that you don’t see every day.
