A year ago, fellow Airstream renovators and road-lifers, John and Laura, invited us out to photograph their Joshua Tree Wedding at Rimrock Ranch. By the time their wedding rolled around, they had finally completed renovating their behemoth 34-foot Airstream and it was time to kick off their marriage and return to road life with a party in the desert.

Joshua Tree Wedding at Rimrock Ranch
Joshua Tree, if you’ve never been before, is a rad little national park in the desert east of Palm Springs, CA. Joshua Tree is known for its huge, round granite boulders that dot the desert landscape, and of course, the Joshua Trees the park is named after. If you’re wondering what a Joshua Tree looks like, check out the photo above of John and Laura exiting the ceremony. See those two big not-quite-palm-trees/not-quite-cactuses? Those are Joshua Trees. We towed our own Airstream down to Joshua Tree for the weekend and camped on some BLM outside the national park. Pro tip – if you plan to camp in Joshua Tree then you better make reservations waaaaayyyyyy ahead of time. Like, the second they become available. Otherwise, you can always find a free spot on the BLM like us 😉 The wedding venue, Rimrock Ranch, is actually up in the hills a bit outside of Joshua Tree National Park. After dropping our pup off with his Rover for the day, we drove the winding road up to Rimrock Ranch for the wedding.Joshua Trees, Airstreams, and Vintage Western Vibes at Rimrock Ranch
It was a hot weekend with clear blue skies. When we rolled up to Rimrock Ranch, John and Laura’s shiny Airstream immediately caught our attention. I know, we’re supposed to be talking about the wedding but we can’t help but talk about Airstreams too. Mere days before they drove out to their wedding, John and Laura completed a massive renovation of their 34-foot vintage Airstream. They dubbed their project “The Long Long Airstream” and you can read about the renovation on their website and see lots more pics on their Instagram. There were actually a number of Airstreams parked at Rimrock, but John and Laura’s was definitely the shiniest. They polished the entirety of their 34-foot long rig to a perfect mirror finish and it looked goooood in the desert.Related: See more Airstream and Joshua Tree goodness in their Day-After Adventure Session
Along with the Airstreams, Rimrock Ranch was decorated with a bunch of other vintage items from a bygone time. Rimrock Ranch used to be a retreat for Hollywood actors and actresses while shooting old western films in the surrounding desert. Now, one new building, built with a modern design using lots of glass and concrete, contrasts the old wood lodges and vintage trailers that date as far back as the 40s. It’s a really cool property that exudes hipness. John and Laura matched that hipness on their wedding day, looking amazing and rolling up in their gorgeous Airstream. After the ceremony and dinner (and some desert-themed cocktails), we wandered out into the desert with them for some sunset portraits. Their genuine love for each other and inner goofiness was easy to see as we snapped away. Just like Airstreams are made for the desert, these two were made for each other. How’s that for some cheese?Links to Scope:
