To wrap up our whirlwind wedding month, we spent one very relaxing week soaking in the sun on the beautiful beaches of Puerto Rico. Brandon’s grandmother gifted us with a stay at the brand new Margaritaville Resort in Rio Mar, so we prepared for a week full of rum drinks, beach hangs, and acoustic island music. Resort life was great for a few days, but of course, our adventurous tendencies brought us out to a couple of really cool local spots.
Our first local eat – Los Chamos, the best street food we had in Puerto Rico! It’s a bright blue and red shack cluttered with local hot sauces, serving up Venezuelan arepas. Arepas are basically fried pitas stuffed with cheese and some sort of fish or meat and then topped with cheese. Yeah, amazing.
Our favorite day in PR took us on a trip to the west side of the island. On the way, we stopped at the caves of Cueva del Indio on the north-central coast. Apparently a handful of pirate movies have been filmed around here, which led us to binge watching all three Pirates of the Caribbean movies (and subsequently reaffirming that the first is the only one worth watching).
All in all it was the perfect week-long getaway after the craziness of the prior wedding week. To close out this post, here’s one more pano from our favorite place in PR, Tamboo Tavern.
